Letter: Absurd to imply Trib targets Republicans, Mormons

I am responding to the letter from Joy and Richard Davis ("Would Trib be so thorough if Swallow were Dem, non-Mormon?" Forum, Dec. 3). To suggest that the Tribune targeted John Swallow because he is a Republican and a Mormon is both absurd and an insult to the good citizens of Utah.

Perhaps if Mr. Swallow had followed the teachings and principles of his faith, there would not have been a reason for the Tribune to get involved in this in the first place. In reality, with the exception of office holders in the Salt Lake City and county governments, the vast majority of elected officials in Utah are both Mormon and Republicans.

This may serve to give one pause enough to consider voting for the Democrat next time, regardless of his or her religion. That said I would expect the Tribune to also "go after" them if they break the law. Keep it up, Salt Lake Tribune.
