DVD • Even for a Whovian like me, the "Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special: The Day of the Doctor" lived up to the hype.
When a time vortex allows The Doctor (Matt Smith) to meet his most recent regeneration (David Tennant) and the incarnation they never talk about, the War Doctor (John Hurt), just as the War Doctor is contemplating ending the war between his Time Lords and the evil Daleks in a way that would obliterate both sides.
Showrunner Steven Moffat's script lets Smith and Tennant riff off each other, brings back Billie Piper in a cool way, and lets Hurt steal the show.
Best of all, the special uses some strategic cameos to tie together the show's past, present and future as it sets up a new quest for The Doctor to pursue.
