More than 2,800 Rocky Mountain Power customers in Vernal were without power for a time Friday afternoon.

The outages were caused by an equipment problem, which was being addressed, according to the company's website.

Power was restored the approximately 2,861 customers at 3:15 p.m.

Early Friday morning, another power outage left more than 3,400 homes cold and dark in northern Utah and southern Salt Lake counties.

That outage was blamed on an otherwise unspecified, non-weather related equipment failure and affected homes and businesses in Alpine, American Fork, Draper and Highland.

By 6 a.m., crews had restored service to all but 1,263 clients and by 8 a.m., Rocky Mountain Power reported that services had been fully restored.

Another outage, also equipment failure, hit nearly 1,200 Orem customers about 9:30 a.m. Crews had services there restored about 30 minutes later.
