The last time Utah volleyball made the NCAA Tournament — 2008 — the Utes advanced to the Sweet 16, something coach Beth Launiere counts to this day as one of her best career accomplishments.

Now, five years later, Utah is one win away from having history repeat itself.

With a four-game win over Yale on Friday afternoon (27-29, 25-15, 26-24, 25-16), the Utes are through to the second round of the tournament. They will likely face host Penn State on Saturday night for the right to advance to a regional.

"It was a typical Utah match for us," Launiere said. "We just had to grind it out tonight. We started out pretty tight, but once we settled down we played some pretty good volleyball. We struggled at times to slow Yale down, but it was a pretty typical match for us and I was pleased with it."

Chelsey Schofield had 15 kills and 12 digs. In doing so, she went over 1,000 kills for her career.

Makenzie Moea'i had 11 kills and had a .625 hitting percentage, and Utah swept the last three games after losing the initial game of the match.
