Park City • After the celebration had subsided, Steven Holcomb unzipped the top of his race suit to reveal a Superman undershirt.

The performance Holcomb and brakeman Alpine resident Chris Fogt have turned in so far in World Cup competition has been every bit worthy of superhero status.

Holcomb earned his third World Cup victory of the season Friday night, helping Americans finish 1-2-4 in the men's two-man bobsled at Utah Olympic Park.

"I think it's awesome ... it's a great day for the United States. We're really showing the talent that we have," said Holcomb, a Park City native. "A win is a win, and I'll take three."

Holcomb/Fogt eliminated the suspense of the evening when they jumped to the top of the leader board early in the opening round.

Their "Night Train 2" sled cut through the brisk evening air in 47.75 seconds for a combined 1:35.51 total that bested teammates Nick Cunningham and Dallas Robinson by 0.25 seconds.

Americans Cory Butner and Charles Berkeley finished fourth behind Germany's Francesco Friedrich and Jannis Baecker.

"You can tell the depth in the drive of this team," Cunningham said. "We know it's the Olympic season. We all have to try a little bit harder and we have to work as a team. I really do think we all came together this week. To come out on race day and go 1-2-4 is phenomenal."

Holcomb and Fogt won World Cup gold in the two-man and four-man competitions last week in Calgary. They return to the track Saturday to race the four-man bobsled competition.

Success wasn't reserved for the U.S. men Friday. Americans Elana Meyers and Aja Evans won the women's event with a combined time of 1:37.67 — Meyers' first victory as a driver and Evans' first victory in a bobsled. The duo took silver in Calgary last week.

"Today was super exciting to be able to come to our home track and get our first win," Meyers said. "It wasn't a perfect run, but Aja gave me everything she had, and that's all I can ask for from a brakeman." —
