Utah assistant Hill to be named WSU's coach

The Utes will lose their second-longest tenured coach in the football program with Jay Hill accepting the head coaching position at Weber State, according to sources contacted by the Tribune. So how does this move affect the Utes? Hill was known as one of Utah's strongest recruiters, especially here in Utah where he grew up. The Utes will have to reinforce their ties with current recruits to make sure they remain true to the program, but overall I don't think Hill's departure will have too much of a negative effect for the Utes. Weber State doesn't exactly compete with Utah for recruits and the Utes have several other coaches with solid local ties including defensive coordinator Kalani Sitake and recruiting coordinator Morgan Scalley. All-in-all it's a good move for Hill, but one that shouldn't hurt the Utes. As for the Utes, they have a big recruiting weekend scheduled with offensive linemen Jackson Barton and Kenyon Frison visiting along with Allan Havili, a defensive lineman from Stansbury. Both Barton and Frison were Hill's recruits, so this weekend is as good a time as ever for the Utes to make sure those two remain committed to Utah along with Havili. Dalton Schultz, Bingham's tight end who is considered another Hill recruit, isn't planning to visit until January. He already has visited Stanford and Notre Dame. - Lya Wodraska
