A woman hit by a car when she darted into heavy morning commuter traffic in Taylorsville on Dec. 6 has died of her injuries.
Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said Thursday that 20-year-old Nina Gailey's family had confirmed her death Wednesday evening.
Gailey had been in extremely critical condition since the 8:38 a.m. accident last Friday at 1115 W. Meadowbrook Expressway (3920 South).
There are no crosswalks in the area, Hoyal said, and witnesses told police that Gailey was walking her large-breed dog and pushing a stroller loaded with personal items there was no baby in the stroller when she suddenly stepped into the path of a Ford Taurus. The dog was killed instantly.
"We still don't know if she just didn't see the car coming or what," Hoyal said.
While charges were not anticipated against the driver, UPD will complete its investigation and submit its findings to the district attorney, per procedure, Hoyal said.
