MMA • Demetrious Johnson stopped Joseph Benavidez with a big right hand in the first round Saturday night in Sacramento, Calif., defending his UFC flyweight title in dramatic fashion.

Hometown favorite Urijah Faber stopped Michael McDonald in the second round, knocking the younger bantamweight into the side of the cage with punches before finishing with a guillotine choke.

Johnson (19-2-1) remained the only champion in the history of the UFC's lightest men's division, defending his belt for the third time. He caught Benavidez (19-4) directly in the face with an unblocked punch, knocking the challenger senseless just 2:08 into the fight.

MLB • Free-agent right-hander Bartolo Colon and the New York Mets finalized their deal, giving the team a starter to replace injured ace Matt Harvey. Colon and the Mets agreed to the two-year, $20 million deal Wednesday. Colon went 18-6 last year with a 2.65 ERA for Oakland. Harvey had elbow reconstruction surgery and is going to miss the 2014 season.
