A North Carolina man was visiting his family in Springville for Christmas when someone struck his car, killing him.
Police report that Worth R. Rummage, 62, died in a fatal crash Sunday afternoon at 1400 N. Main Street. He had been driving west in a Honda Accord and was crossing the intersection at 2:30 p.m. when a northbound Jeep Liberty failed to stop for the red light and struck him broadside, according to a Springville police news release.
Rummage was trapped in his car, so fire and rescue responders had to extricate him before an ambulance could take him to the hospital. A helicopter was initially called to the scene, but was cancelled because of the type and extent of Rummage's injuries, according to the release.
The driver of the Jeep, a 48-year-old Springville man, was not seriously hurt. The man was taken to Utah County Jail under suspicion of driving under the influence of prescription medication and automobile homicide, the release adds.
