Here's what's being talked about in pop culture:

• Two legends of the big screen died over the weekend: Peter O'Toole, 81, the blue-eyed charismatic actor who broke onto the scene with "Lawrence of Arabia" and went on to a long career that included "The Lion in Winter," "The Stunt Man," "My Favorite Year" and "Ratatouille"; and Joan Fontaine, 96, who won an Oscar for Alfred Hitchcock's "Suspicion" and also starred in "Rebecca" — and famously had a decades-long rivalry with her sister, Olivia de Havilland. [Washington Post, Los Angeles Times]

• And here's another celebrity obituary: Tom Laughlin — who portrayed the half-Indian ex-Green Beret vigilante Billy Jack in four movies in the '60s and '70s (which he starred in, directed, wrote and produced) — died last week at the age of 82. [The Hollywood Reporter]

• "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" roared to the top of the box office chart this weekend, taking in $73.7 million — well short of the $84.6 million the first "Hobbit" film did last year. [Box Office Mojo]
