The countdown commences toward the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, which begins Jan. 16 — exactly one month from today.

To whet the appetite for the madness to come in Park City (and in venues in Salt Lake City, Ogden and the Sundance resort), The Salt Lake Tribune today launches on this blog its "trailer of the day" feature, highlighting a movie coming to the festival.

Starting off the parade of trailers is "Calvary," a dark comedy from Irish writer-director John Michael McDonagh, whose comedy "The Guard" played Sundance in 2011.

This one, like that one, stars Brendan Gleeson, the charming Irish actor best known as Mad Eye Moody in the "Harry Potter" films. Gleeson plays a well-intentioned priest in an Irish village who one morning is told by someone in the confessional, "I'm going to kill you, Father."

The movie co-stars Chris O'Dowd ("Bridesmaids") and Kelly Reilly ("Flight"), and debuts in the Premieres section of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. It's first screening is Sunday, Jan. 19, at 6:45 p.m., at the Eccles Theatre in Park City.
