UHP: Alcohol a factor in pickup truck's crash into trooper's cruiser

Alcohol likely contributed to a southern Utah crash where a pickup truck slammed into a parked Utah Highway Patrol cruiser and a nearby tow truck.

UHP Sgt. Todd Royce said Tuesday that the pickup's driver remained in critical condition in a Salt Lake City hospital, but his vital signs had stabilized.

The crash occurred as UHP Sgt. Ryan Bauer was stopped near the median of Interstate 15 about 6:20 p.m. Monday, 3 miles southwest of Parowan. He was waiting for a tow truck to remove a vehicle from a previous crash when the northbound pickup drifted into the trooper's lane and hit his cruiser and the tow truck.

The pickup rolled, with the driver sustaining serious head injuries.

Neither the trooper or the tow truck driver were hurt.
