It's no secret in Provo that BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy didn't play as well in the latter half of the 2013 football season as he did in the first half. Van Noy has never publicly admitted to being injured, but he clearly hasn't been himself since the last part of October. It seems like Van Noy has missed more open-field tackles this season than in his first three seasons combined. More proof that Van Noy struggled down the stretch came Tuesday when the BYU senior was not named to the Associated Press All-America teams. It was a super year for linebackers, but Van Noy's absence on the most noteworthy All-America team is still a bit surprising, see as how he was on most preseason and midseason AA teams. Later Tuesday, word came that Van Noy was picked to the CBSSports.com All-America third team. He was also named to the SportsIllustrated.com All-America honorable mention team, along with fellow BYU linebacker Uani 'Unga and Utah's Trevor Reilly (whose brother, Drew Reilly, plays for BYU). It is also worth noting that former Timpview High OL Xavier Su'a-Filo, a former BYU recruit, made the AP All-American second team. Unga went under the radar a bit this season, but led the Cougars with 136 tackles, the second-highest total in the country, and 66 more than any other Cougar. Unga also made 7.5 tackles for loss and forced a pair of fumbles, recovering one.
