Today's 2014 Sundance Film Festival trailer reunites us with maverick filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, who's so identified with independent film that he appeared in the famous "Simpsons" episode when Lisa Simpson got her documentary into Sundance.

Jarmusch's latest film is "Only Lovers Left Alive," which follows the centuries-long romance between an underground musician (Tom Hiddleston) and his enigmatic lover (Tilda Swinton) through the rundown parts of Detroit and Tangier. They are vampires, of course, coping with surviving as the world around them slowly crumbles.

The cast includes Mia Wasikowska, Anton Yelchin, Jeffrey Wright and John Hurt.

"Only Lovers Left Alive," which premiered last May at Cannes and also played in Toronto in September, plays in Sundance's Spotlilght section — dedicated to good movies that have debuted at previous festivals.

The first Sundance screening is Monday, Jan. 20, at 11:30 a.m. at the Library Center Theatre in Park City.
