Alaska Airlines adding three more Salt Lake City routes

Fliers traveling out of Salt Lake International Airport will have even more options 2014 after Alaska Airlines announced it was adding three more daily flights in June.

The airline had already said that it will begin daily nonstop service from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles; San Diego; San Jose, Calif,; and Portland, Ore., starting June 9, along with adding a third nonstop flight to its existing service between Salt Lake and Seattle.

It announced this week that starting June 16, it will begin flying nonstop from Salt Lake City to Boise and Las Vegas and beginning June 18, it will fly to San Francisco.

Special introductory sale fares on the three newly added flights will be available for purchase Tuesday at www.alaskaair.com.

"Known for our award-winning service and low fares, we're pleased to offer travelers more opportunities to experience Alaska Airlines' unique service when they fly," said Joe Sprague, vice president of marketing. "These additional flights will complement Alaska's strong network on the West Coast."

The increased competition should make for some good deals to West Coast cities from Salt Lake City as Alaska Airlines' new routes compete with Delta, Southwest and JetBlue for market share.

Starting in June, Alaska Airlines will fly one daily roundtrip each between Salt Lake City and Boise and San Francisco, and two daily roundtrips between Salt Lake and Las Vegas.

The airline will use Boeing 737 and Horizon Air Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft

The airline said that flights from Salt Lake City to San Francisco will allow travelers same-day connections to the airline's nonstop service from there to Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

To promote the new routes, Alaska Airlines is offering its Mileage Plan members double miles on the new routes.

Alaska Airlines serves nearly 100 cities in Alaska, the lower 48 states, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico.
