Say this much for Utah coach Kyle Whittingham, he isn't afraid to shake things up is he? Whittingham pulled a shocker on Friday, announcing the hiring of Dave Christensen as his new offensive coordinator. Dennis Erickson, hired last year at a tune of $275,000, will coach the running backs while Brian Johnson, who served as co-offensive coordinator last year after serving as coordinator in 2012, will coach the quarterbacks. Got all that? Here is a recap of the offensive coordinators under Whittingham since he was hired as the head coach in 2005:Andy Ludwig (2005-08)Dave Schramm (2009, 2010 co-coordinator)Aaron Roderick (2010, passing game coordinator 2012-13)Norm Chow (2011)Brian Johnson (2012, 2013 co-coordinator)Erickson (2013) Reached by phone, Erickson wouldn't comment other than to say he plans to stay for 2014 and was surprised by the move. He certainly isn't the only one. A lack of consistency in the offense has been Utah's issue for many years. Injuries to quarterbacks has certainly been a factor, but one has to wonder about all the coaching changes too. Wisconsin is thriving under Ludwig, who was hired as the OC this year and Schramm has been successful in his two years as Fresno State's OC. Did Whittingham give up on those guys too soon and could they have had Utah's offense rolling if they had remained? Did he give up on Erickson's impact too soon as well? Only time will tell. You have to wonder how, how much time Christensen will have. - Lya Wodraska
