Letter: Gay-marriage ruling destroying tradition — how?

Did you feel it? I know I did. Ever since the ruling was issued by U.S. Judge Robert Shelby on Friday, I have been watching my marriage of 29 years start to deteriorate before my eyes ("Judge denies AG's request to halt same-sex marriage," Tribune, Dec. 23).

I do not know what to do about the clear effects that this ruling is having on us. Those effects include ... well, no need to list the obvious ways this ruling impacts my "traditional marriage."

Thank goodness we have Gov. Gary Herbert using well-reasoned legal analysis (ie: the majority should always be allowed to check the rights of minorities) to defend our marriages from what the Deseret News so respectfully labeled "judicial tyranny" and to protect us from what Herbert so accurately described as the "chaotic situation" that has been caused by this ruling.

His comments have helped calm some of the panic and distress I was feeling as I was forced to actually read stories and see pictures of gay couples being allowed to legally engage in exercising a right of citizenship that belongs to me ... my marriage ... my precious.
