The Iron County Sheriff's Office is looking for an inmate who left for an approved medical appointment, only to write himself a prescription for escape.

Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Del Schlosser said Tuesday that James Allen Logan, 33, of Houston, Texas, was released from the Iron County Correctional Facility last Friday for a doctor's visit, on condition he return to his cell by 6 p.m. that day.

Logan, who was behind bars on a drug possession count, did not return. A subsequent search of the area by deputies failed to turn up any trace of him. However, Schlosser said, investigators believe he may be in the Las Vegas area.

Logan is described as 6-feet, 220 pounds, with short brown hair. He has a tattoo of a clown on his left arm and another of a sun on his right calf.

Anyone with information on Logan's whereabouts is encouraged to call the Iron County Sheriff's Department at 435-867-7500 or 435-867-7550. Tips can be texted anonymously to 274-637.
