A woman was found dead and a man critically injured inside a car with Utah license plates after a reported shooting in San Diego.

The woman called 911 before she died, about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, and reported she had been shot near the Westfield Mission Valley Mall, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.

Officers arrived to find the man and woman inside a black sedan with Utah plates. The woman died at the scene and the man was in critical condition, with life-threatening injuries.

The victims are both in their 20s, police said. They were shot in the head and upper body.

Police had not released the names of the victims Tuesday. They were gathering surveillance video from the mall and questioning witnesses.
