Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity reported that 2013 was one of the nonprofit's strongest ever, with a record $1.9 million in donations.

Some of that money paid for the construction of six new homes this year for families earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area's median income who are unable to afford a home on their own.

The donations also paid for 73 home repairs through the organizations' Green Healthy Homes Initiative. The home repairs helped a total of 157 people in the Salt Lake Valley.
