Fog likely near Salt Lake airport Saturday before weak storm moves in

It's your daily dose of Utah weather warnings: Slow down, drive less, breathe easy and take care on the slopes.

Slow down • The National Weather Service says Salt Lake City International Airport will be surrounded by patchy and sometimes dense fog Saturday morning. Drive slow and use caution in this area, as the road surface also is likely to be icy.

Drive less, breathe easy • A weak storm system has the potential to bring snow Saturday night in northern Utah, but it appears to be little match for the mighty inversion.

The inversion weakened Saturday along the Wasatch Front, but an absence of storms Sunday through Friday will allow the muck to amass above valley dwellers.

The Utah Division of Air Quality rates Salt Lake City air as "unhealthy for sensitive groups" and issued a mandatory no-burn condition for Saturday.

Take care on the slopes • Those escaping to the clearer skies at higher elevations should be wary of avalanche. The Utah Avalanche Center rates the risk of human-triggered slides as "considerable" throughout the upper half of the state.

Forecast • Highs in the mid-30s were likely in the Wasatch Front on both Saturday and Sunday, with a chance of snow late Saturday.

Southern Utahns can expect clear skies and temperatures ranging from the 40s to the mid-50s through New Year's Day.
