BYU QB Taysom Hill gets engaged Saturday night

BYU quarterback Taysom Hill will be a married man when the Cougars take the field next season. Hill, a sophomore from Pocatello, Idaho, announced Sunday morning via his Twitter account that he became engaged late Saturday night to Emily Nixon of College Station, Texas. Nixon is the sister of former BYU linebacker David Nixon. "She said yes!!!," Hill wrote on Twitter. "I am officially engaged and couldn't be happier!!!" Hill posted a photo on Instagram of himself on bended knee, presenting an engagement ring to Nixon. "As of 1:30 this morning, I am officially ENGAGED!!!," Nixon wrote on her Twitter feed, with the hashtag #happiestgirlalive Another of David Nixon's sisters, Rachel, is married to BYU safety Craig Bills. "Big congrats to @t_hill4 and my lil sis @emnixx on their engagement last night," David Nixon wrote on his Twitter account. Hill's marriage proposal came just over 24 hours after the Cougars lost 31-16 to Washington in the Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco. He carried the ball 31 times for 133 net yards and a touchdown in the game, and also threw for 293 yards. He was sacked five times for -24 yards. After the game, Hill talked about the importance this offseason of developing chemistry with his receivers and improving his throwing ability. On Monday, in a one-on-one interview with The Tribune, Hill talked about the spotlight that is always on the BYU quarterback. "Honestly, I wouldn't say there's one particular thing that surprised me," he said. "I was close friends with Riley [Nelson] last year. And he was really good to me. I saw what Riley went through last year. I wouldn't particularly say there has been one thing that has surprised me, that has been new. It is my first year as the BYU quarterback, but I am not necessarily surprised. I saw Riley get stopped in restaurants, go through various things like that, so I wasn't surprised by that."
