Hurting someone or yourself because you drove drunk sounds like a pretty bad way to start the new year.

So don't — AAA Utah will take you and your car home for free, and you do not even have to be a AAA member. Starting at 6 p.m. New Year's Eve, anyone can call 800-222-4357 (AAA-HELP, if that is easier to remember) for a free tow home, as long as home is within 10 miles of where you are. Just tell the AAA operator that you "need a Tipsy Tow" and a truck will be on the way, according to a news release from the company.

If any passengers need a ride, they can hop in and go to the driver's home as well — as long as there is room for them in the tow truck, the release adds.

The service ends 6 a.m. New Year's Day. You cannot make a reservation.

AAA's offer might help keep a fatality-free streak going for the Utah Highway Patrol — no one has died in a crash on the highways the last two New Year's Eves.
