Salt Lake police arrest one bank robbery suspect, look for two others

Salt Lake City police on Tuesday had one bank robbery suspect in custody but continued to look for two others in a second holdup.

Police spokeswoman Robin Heiden said that about 12:40 p.m. Monday a Latino man in his late 30s, 5-foot-7, thin and wearing a black beanie-style cap, black coat and black T-shirt entered the Bank of Utah at 711 S. State St. He approached a teller and demanded and received money.

The man then fled the bank on foot, running east on 700 South. Police later located the 40-year-old suspect, arrested him and booked him into Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of robbery.

Still at large were two men who arrived at the Brighton Bank branch in a taxi cab about 12:30 p.m. Monday. One of the men entered the bank, at 1420 S. 300 West, demanded and received a bag of money.

However, when he fled the bank and tried to re-enter the waiting cab, a dye pack inside the bag exploded. Both suspects then fled the scene on foot.

One suspect, the one who entered the bank, were described a white male adult with a balding or shaved head, a brown stubble beard and moustache. He was wearing a tan hooded sweatshirt, gray shirt and blue jeans.

The second suspect was only described as a white male adult.
