Utah couldn't recover after letting UCLA score the first 10 points of the game, and the Utes lost 55-38 in their Pac-12 women's college basketball opener Friday night in Los Angeles.
The Utes (7-5, 0-1) trailed 10-0 and 22-4 in the first half. They got to within 35-29 in the second half before the Bruins (7-7, 1-1) went on a 20-5 run to close the game.
Emily Potter led Utah with 12 points, and Michelle Plouffe posted 10 rebounds. The Utes finished the game shooting only 27.3 percent from the field and shot just four free throws.
Nirra Fields led UCLA with 21 points, followed by Thea Lamberger with 17 and Antonye Nyingifa with 14.
The Utes stay in Los Angeles for a game at USC on Sunday at 5 p.m.
