A man was picking up dinner for he and his wife when he fell into a 10-foot trench Sunday evening.
The middle-aged man was walking over some plywood placed over the trench in a strip mall parking lot, at 140 N. 900 West, when he and the wood fell in, said Salt Lake City Fire spokesman Jasen Asay. He wound up on his back in a pool of water, with an injured leg, and was unable to get out on his own.
People in the parking lot heard him yelling for help and called 911. Within 30 minutes, firefighters had the man out of the hole and on his way to a local hospital. His leg is possibly broken, Asay said.
