Today's 2014 Sundance Film Festival trailer promises a mix of sex, passion and murder.

The erotically charged French thriller "Stranger by the Lake" begins with Frank (Pierre Deladonchamps), cruising a popular spot by a nearby lake. He meets Michel (Christope Paou), who's tall, dark and handsome — and he falls in love. But when someone is killed at the lake, Frank and Michel become the prime suspects.

The movie is arriving at Sundance after hitting the festival circuit last year. It won the directing prize in the "Un Certain Regard" program at Cannes, and played at Toronto and New York.

"Stranger by the Lake" screens in the Spotlight program of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. It has its first Sundance screening Friday, Jan. 19, at noon at the Temple Theatre in Park City.
