Though it feels fairly normal for this time of year in Utah right now, much of the rest of the country is being iced by the ominously named polar vortex.

Luckily, North Americans are making the best of the record-low temperatures by doing record-cool experiments. In the video above — posted last week by a YouTuber in Canada — the cold turns boiling water fired from a water gun into a snow-like mist.

Something similar happens in the video below, where a guy in Wisconsin throws a pot of boiling water out the window and it turns into fluffy mist.

And here's another pot of boiling … snow, from this time from Indiana.

And finally in this last video, a guy from an Iowa sports apparel company shows a shirt freezing solid in about 60 seconds. Suddenly Utah's forecast of temperatures in the upper-30s doesn't seem so bad any more.
