Letter: Red-light runners dangerous, family can attest

People are in too much of a hurry these days. On any given day at any given intersection you can witness the seemingly endless procession of red-light runners. Are the few minutes they save worth the possible consequences?

I want to thank the people who came to the aid of my family early New Year's Day, who witnessed a white Ford Windstar van that ran a red light that morning on 6200 South and "T-boned" my daughter's vehicle.

Four people on board were injured, including a pregnant woman, and a 3-year-old returning home from a family party was traumatized. The van's driver subsequently fled the scene, running a second red light, narrowly missing another vehicle, without the slightest concern for human life other than his (or hers).

I struggle to understand the mentality of such an individual. Chances are if the reading skills of this criminal are equivalent to his or her moral development, he or she will be unable to read and comprehend these words of a frustrated grandfather.
