Today's 2014 Sundance Film Festival trailer introduces us to two women bound by blood, and a secret.

The black-and-white drama "Ida" is set in Poland in the 1960s, and centers on two women. One is Anna (Agata Trzebuchowska), an orphan raised in a convent, who is about to take her vows. The other is Wanda (Agata Kulesza), her aunt and only living relative, a cynical and hard-drinking Communist Party judge. Wanda informs Anna that her real name is Ida, and that her parents were Jews killed by the Nazis during the occupation of World War II.

Director Pawel Pawlikowski is known for European films with English-language stars (Ethan Hawke in "The Woman in the Fifth," Emily Blunt in "My Summer of Love"), and this is the first movie he's made in his native Poland.

"Ida" premiered at the Telluride Film Festival last fall, and debuts in Sundance's Spotlight section. Its first screening is Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 5:45 p.m. at the Library Center Theatre in Park City.
