South Salt Lake police have nabbed their suspect in a Friday afternoon credit union robbery.

A South Salt Lake officer spotted the 66-year-old suspect just six hours after the heist, according to a news release. Police say that the man robbed the TransWest Credit Union, at 39 W. 2100 South, about 4:20 p.m. Though he never brandished a weapon, he told the teller he had a gun and threatened to shoot bank employees, according to the police.

The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash. The man then fled on foot and was seen walking east on 2100 South, toward State Street.

About 10:20 p.m. Friday, an officer spotted the suspect walking near 200 E. 3300 South. He was arrested without incident and booked into Salt Lake County jail under suspicion of aggravated robbery and possession of a controlled substance, according to the release.
