One more movie is being added to the 2014 Sundance Film Festival slate — and it's from an old friend of the festival, Richard Linklater.

Linklater will show a special preview of his new film, the groundbreaking and experimental film "Boyhood," Sundance organizers announced today.

The movie was shot over short periods from 2000 to 2013, covering 12 years in the life of a family. The focus is on Mason (played by Ellar Coltrane), who with his sister Samantha (played by Linklater's daughter, Lorelei), moves through the emotional journey from childhood to adulthood. Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke play Mason and Samantha's parents.

Linklater brought his first movie, "Slacker," to Sundance in 1991. Since then, he's been here with "Before Sunrise" (SFF '95), "subUrbia" (SFF '97), "Waking Life" (SFF '01), "Tape" (SFF '01), and "Before Midnight" (SFF '13). Linklater's other movies include such beloved recent films as "Dazed & Confused" and "The School of Rock."

"Boyhood" has its premiere Sunday, Jan. 19, at 9:45 p.m. at the Eccles Theatre in Park City. (This answers the question of that mysterious "TBA" on the schedule.)
