There is a smell of freshness coming out of Washington from the House and Senate that is truly pleasant. I am so pleased to see our government actually pass a $1.1 trillion budget deal that will take the country through the summer without the likes of Sens. Mike Lee and Ted Cruz stomping their feet, whining and embarrassing the country because they are not in front of all of the cameras being a couple of rubes ("Obama signs bipartisan budget deal, defense bill," Tribune, Dec. 26).

To have them silent for a while is truly refreshing, and I only hope now that they can work toward improving the country like this in the future. Oh wait, there is a mid-term election this year, so they will continue to fight each other about dozens of allegations and other things. Well it has been enjoyable.
