The driver of a car was seriously injured Friday morning when he rear-ended a semi truck on the Interstate 84 on-ramp from Mountain Green in Morgan County.

Just before 7 a.m., a westbound semi pulling a box trailer experienced mechanical trouble and the driver pulled to the right side of the road, partially blocking the on-ramp, the Utah Highway Patrol reported.

The driver of a Honda Accord, who was using the on-ramp, did not see the truck and crashed into the rear of the semi trailer, the UHP said.

The westbound lanes of I-84 were shutdown for approximately 30 minutes while a medical helicopter was on scene.

The 40-year-old male driver, who was conscious when he left the scene, was transported to a hospital in serious condition. By the end of the day he was in critical condition but his injuries were not considered life-threatening, UHP reported.
