A 70-year-old man was seriously hurt after a car hit him in the Poplar Grove area Monday morning.

About 7 a.m., the man was crossing Redwood Road (1700 West) at 400 South in the north crosswalk when a northbound vehicle struck him, said Salt Lake City Police Capt. John Cardona.

The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition, though his injuries are not life-threatening, according to the police.

"At this point, we have a few conflicting statements. We're not sure if he was walking against the light or with the light," the captain said. The investigation is ongoing.

The male who was driving the car was not injured, Cardona said.
