Letter: Small minority who benefit from caucuses love them

Re "Utah elections are run like the Literary Digest poll," Opinion, Jan. 19:

Kindly remember that virtually all the most vocal proponents of retaining the caucus system, on both sides of the political aisle, are among the small minority who control the caucus system and thus benefit from maintaining the status quo.

Also, all of the attributes of an open primary system that the caucus system defenders decry as bad — the exaggerated influence of money, professional politicians who lack character (try to swallow that) — are abundantly present in the caucus system, too.

But there they are deployed to the amusement and benefit of just a small minority who unsurprisingly love the status quo.
