A shoplifter eluded employees at a west Salt Lake City strip mall, but police soon took him down — in the restroom of a nearby Wienerschnitzel restaurant.

Police were called to the restaurant at 1405 S. 300 West about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, where witnesses said they the male suspect had entered the business. Inside the eatery, police were told by customers that the man was in the men's room.

Officers made contact with the man and attempted to take him into custody, but the suspect resisted and eventually attacked one officer.

The second officer then shocked the suspect with a Taser, and he was arrested and handcuffed.

The 32-year-old man was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of theft, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and fleeing the scene of a crime.
