Letter: Lockhart promoted disunity in Utah government

It seems to me to have been seriously inappropriate for Rebecca Lockhart to have used her position of speaker of the House to promote her own political agenda by attacking Gov. Gary Herbert in what were supposed to be opening remarks to the Utah House of Representatives, no doubt a prelude to her own run for governor ("Utah Legislature opens 45-day session with some sparks," Tribune, Jan. 27).

She has put Gov. Herbert in the position of having to respond in opposition to Lockhart and his other critics, creating factions within the Utah state government and the Republican Party, a sign of decadence, decay, and incivility.

Utahns are not particularly drawn to rank disloyalty. I hope someone within her party challenges her position as speaker. I would support that candidate.
