Sunset man sentenced to up to life in prison for sexual assaults

A 19-year-old Sunset man was sentenced to spend up to life in prison after admitting to sexually abusing two teenage girls.

Morgan David Izatt was originally charged in 2nd District Court in two separate cases. In the first, filed on Dec. 6, 2012, Izatt was charged with first-degree felony rape and forcible sodomy, as well as class A misdemeanor assault — stemming from allegations that he forced a high school student to perform oral sex and then raped her in Plain City.

Six days later, prosecutors filed another case, charging Izatt with two counts of second-degree felony sex abuse of a child, alleging that Izatt fondled the genitals of a 13-year-old girl.

Izatt accepted a plea deal in July, pleading guilty to the rape, assault and one sexual abuse of a child charge. The remaining charges were dismissed.

On Monday, 2nd District Court Scott Hadley sentenced Izatt to spend at least three years and possibly up to life in prison for the rape charge. He also sentenced the teen to one to 15 years in prison for sex abuse of a child charge and 180 days in jail for the assault charge. Those sentences were ordered to run concurrent to the rape sentence.
