SLC cops: Argument ends with severed finger, assault with pickup

A Salt Lake City man is accused of biting off the tip of a man's finger and striking the victim with his pickup truck.

In charges filed Wednesday, police wrote that the man, 31, was driving a pickup truck with his mother and another man near 200 South 500 West. While in the car, an argument broke out and the suspect pulled over to fight with the male passenger, police wrote. During the fight, the man bit off the top of the victim's right ring finger.

The man's mother grabbed the keys and left the truck. The man chased her, grabbed her by the hair, threw her to the ground and took the keys, police wrote.

He got in the truck and backed it toward his mother and the male victim three times, forcing them to jump out of the way, police wrote.

The male victim walked away, but the suspect drove up to the man, traveling against traffic, and drove up onto the sidewalk where the victim was walking, hitting him with the car, police wrote.

The victim suffered multiple broken bones and a dislocated hip.

The suspect was charged with first-degree felony attempted murder, second-degree felony mayhem and third-degree felony aggravated assault.
