Utah's resorts rejoice with new blanket of fresh powder

The arrival early Thursday of what was expected to be the first wave of several days of winter storms blanketed Utah's ski resorts with a bounty of fresh powder.

Ski Utah reported that 12-hour totals from the storm that moved over the Wasatch Mountains, and to a lesser extent the central and southern Utah slopes, were generally, well, generous.

Alta, Brighton, Snowbird and Powder Mountain resorts all recorded a foot of new snowfall as of dawn Thursday. Snowbasin came in at 10 inches, with Beaver Mountain, Park City Mountain, Solitiude and Sundance resorts measuring 9 inches. Canyons had 8 inches, Deer Valley 9 and Wolf Mountain recorded 3 inches.

Those totals were expected only to rise as snow was predicted to continue periodically well into the weekend.
