In Utah, mild weekend will give way to snow-filled week

A light dusting of snow Saturday will give way to a calm and clear Super Bowl Sunday, weather forecasters said. But don't get too comfortable just yet.

An "active week" full of rain, snow and freezing temperatures awaits.

According to the National Weather Service, less than half an inch of snow hit the valley floor Saturday, with up to two inches in northern regions and in the mountains.

"It's a duster," said National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Conger, who added that Sunday will be dry and clear with the best temperatures of the week — hovering in the upper-30s.

By Monday, that could all change.

The weather service issued a hazardous-weather warning for the northern and central areas of the state with the expectation that the storms will touch down during the workweek.

Forecasters said storms will bring the long-awaited snow Utah's been missing this winter, along with low temperatures and clean air.

"The mountains will finally get their snow," Conger said. "The valleys will, too."

Southern Utah won't feel the cold or see the amount of snow that their neighbors to the north are expected to receive, but should also receive some snowfall, according to the weather service.

The Utah Avalanche Center issued an avalanche warning for Skyline Drive in Sanpete County and areas west of Price.

Air quality ratings across the state were in the green — good zone — Saturday.
