Snow blamed for 10 crashes involving 29 vehicles on I-15

Twenty-nine vehicles were involved in 10 separate crashes on Interstate 15 in Box Elder County early Saturday after a snowstorm swept into the area.

The most serious crash — in which six vehicles, including a tanker truck pulling a trailer, collided — sent a woman to the hospital in serious condition. The woman, who was not immediately identified, had been driving a tan Honda Accord and had to be cut out of her car.

A snowstorm that hit the Brigham City area about 8:30 a.m. was believed to be responsible for dangerous road conditions that caused so many cars and trucks to crash, police said.

Officials blamed "slick road conditions" and "drivers not slowing their speeds down" in a news release.

The first crash happened just before exit 362 on the northbound side of I-15 when a semitrailer and two cars crashed.

A four-car collision occured shortly thereafter, just south of the first incident.

The six-vehicle pileup that hospitalized a woman happened soon after, along with several two- and three-vehicle crashes that dotted a single-mile stretch of the roadway.

On the southbound side, a semitrailer jackknifed near mile marker 361, but no one was injured and it was the only vehicle involved.

People in four of the 10 crashes suffered injuries, according to police.

The Interstate was closed from mile marker 351 to 362 for several hours as officials worked to clear the road. Traffic was rerouted onto state road 89 through Perry and Willard until about noon.

The Utah Highway Patrol has cleared the road for use after it was plowed and salted.
