10-year-old girl falls from Utah ski lift

A 10-year-old girl was hospitalized Saturday after she fell 32 feet from a ski lift at Deer Valley Resort.

The girl, who was not named, was about halfway up the Red Cloud chair lift about 11 a.m. Saturday when she fell to the ground.

She was not alone on the lift, resort officials said, and witnesses said she was feeling ill before her fall.

Park officials tried to call a helicopter to carry the girl out of the mountains, but snow prevented the aircraft from assisting.

The girl was instead rushed to Primary Children's hospital in an ambulance, said Deer Valley spokeswoman Coleen Reardon.

Her condition was not immediately available and Reardon could not comment on any injuries the child suffered from the fall.

The child is believed to be a Utah resident.
