Letter: Spend more to win more, Utah

Every year we hear the same thing about spending money on education: "Throwing money at something does not make it any better."

People, we are the worst, not even second to worst, but the worst at education spending. I can't even fathom that the good people of Utah would put up with that.

If the Utah Jazz were the worst in their division every year, people would be calling for someone's head. The organization would have to find some money and go out and get some good players. Solely relying on the status quo and the draft doesn't work.

A few years ago when Utah and BYU were still in the Mountain West Conference, all we would hear was how they had a hard time making it to a BCS bowl because they just didn't get the same revenue to compete.

Why do many of us hate the Yankees? Because they buy championships.

We are the worst in spending , but in the middle at achievement. These numbers suggest that Utah gets a lot with its low per-pupil spending. It shows that our teachers are outstanding at what they do.

Relying on the status quo doesn't work. Our representatives need to find some money and provide the facilities and equipment, and spend the money necessary for our players (our children) to compete and succeed.
