Letter: Use missionary power for service

It was heartening to read that LDS missionaries in San Jose, Dallas and Denver are volunteering their time to work on projects that materially improve the lives of people in those cities ("LDS missionaries ditching suits to do more service", Tribune, Feb. 1).

I hope LDS Church observers will acknowledge and encourage this development for what it may portend: a major shift in church policy harnessing the power of the missionary system to serve rather than proselytize.
