Letter: Utah defense of marriage ban is offensive

I just want to express my deep offense at Utah's incredibly lame "defense" of its institutionalized bigotry, Amendment 3 (Utah makes it all about kids in brief against same-sex marriage," Tribune, Feb. 3).

The arguments used by those who'd discriminate based on sexual orientation have long been ridiculous — as if someone's marriage can in any way be a threat to another's, for example. But to denigrate every family except those of "biological moms and dads" is beyond insulting.

Does that mean my stepkids are worse off for being with me instead of having their DNA donors stay together in a dysfunctional relationship? Or that a spouse who has lost her partner in the line of duty is somehow less of a parent?

The fact that this moronic tactic is funded by my tax dollars makes this all the more offensive.

It's about time those who proclaim to be leaders and those who claim fealty to any deity to start including everyone in their plans, not just those who toe the same line they do, with the compassion religions always preach.
