Olympics: USOC honors BYU student

BYU student Kate Hansen, who will compete next week in the women's luge event in the 2014 Olympics, was named the U.S. Olympic Commitee's athlete of the month for January. Hansen won the first world cup gold medal for a U.S. luge singles athlete since 1997 at the FIL World Cup, Jan. 25 in Sigulda, Latvia. She finished the 2013-14 World Cup season ranked seventh overall with 384 total points. Her competition is scheduled Monday and Tuesday at the Sanki Sliding Center. Hansen is from La Canada, Calif.
