Top 25 basketball: SMU stops Cincy's 15-game win streak

Dallas • Nick Russell had 15 points to go with several big steals, and coach Larry Brown's SMU Mustangs stayed undefeated at home with a 76-55 victory Saturday night over No. 7 Cincinnati, ending the Bearcats' 15-game winning streak.

SMU (19-5, 8-3 American Athletic Conference) has already beaten three Top 25 opponents in seven games since moving into the renovated Moody Coliseum five weeks ago.

Before that, the Mustangs hadn't defeated a ranked opponent anywhere since December 2003. They hadn't had multiple wins against Top 25 teams in the same season since 1984-85, the last time SMU appeared in the poll.

Cincinnati hadn't lost since dropping consecutive games against New Mexico and Xavier in the first half of December. The Bearcats beat SMU 65-57 at home in the AAC opener.

No. 17 Iowa 85, No. 10 Michigan 67 • In Iowa City, Iowa, Roy Devyn Marble scored 22 of his 26 points in the first half for Iowa. Aaron White added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Hawkeyes (18-6, 7-4 Big Ten), who have beaten two AP Top 10 teams in the regular season for the first time since 1990-91.

Texas Tech 65, No. 19 Oklahoma St. 61 • In Lubbock, Texas, Oklahoma State star Marcus Smart shoved a fan behind the basket in the waning seconds of Texas Tech's win over the Cowboys. Smart tried to block Jaye Crockett's dunk attempt from behind with 6.2 seconds to go and tumbled into the front row of the crowd. He was helped to his feet by one man but then got in the face of another fan in a black shirt. The man appeared to say something to Smart, who then shoved him with two hands. Smart was called for a technical foul but was not ejected.

No. 24 Memphis 60, No. 23 Gonzaga 54 • In Memphis, Tenn., Chris Crawford and Michael Dixon Jr. both had 11 points, and Memphis scored the final 10 of the game to defeat Gonzaga. Dixon's layup with 1:11 left came in the midst of the final rally as the Tigers (18-5) erased a nine-point Gonzaga lead with 6:15 left. —
