Last week, as my family drove from the UVU Events Center to the cemetery, we were overwhelmed at the response to the loss of our cousin, Sgt. Cory Wride. He comes from a long line of police officers, and he served and represented our family and community well.

As we drove down the highway, our hearts were filled with awe as we witnessed the outpouring of love from our community. Hundreds of men, women and children lined Spanish Fork's main street with flags waving, and we could not hold back our tears ("Thousands attend slain officer's funeral," Tribune, Feb. 5).

We witnessed the strength of our nation and who America is as we drove slowly down the street. It is so senseless that a small portion of this great nation feels the need to injure and hurt their fellow citizens.

However the beauty as we traversed through the crowd gave us great hope that America is strong as long as we remain united. Thank you all for the outpouring of love and support. You are what makes us the United states of America.
